How It Works…
Intense Pulsed Light utilizes light energy – which changes to heat - that passes through the skin while being absorbed by the melanin pigment.  This results in rapid heating of the hair follicles which are responsible for hair growth. The heat destroys the papillae (hair follicles) so that new hair growth cannot occur in the treated areas.  This treatment is painless – our patients tell us the wave lengths feel like a rubber band snap – or a small pinch.

A treatment usually takes 20 minutes or longer, depending upon the size of the area you are covering.  A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated and you may be given dark glasses to wear to protect your eyes from the bright light. The hand piece, used for treatment, is gently passed over the skin (it feels like smooth glass) and pulses of light, in the appropriate wave lengths, are directed into the targeted areas.  Treatments are done in series – usually 6 sessions are needed.

You can return to work or normal activities right after your treatment – there is no downtime!  Many patients do lunchtime treatments…

About Hair Growth – Why a series of treatments are necessary…
Hair follicles grow and regrow in a cycle, and even the most sophisticated technology or treatments cannot disable those follicles that are active during the time of treatment.  So, for complete hair removal, treatments must be repeated six times – at seven to thirteen week intervals - to systematically disable follicles as they go into their active phase.

While the treated area may appear pink or slightly red for 1-2 days after treatment – this is normal and does abate quickly.  IPL light treatments are non-invasive (non-surgical), safe and effective.  There is no disruption to the skin’s surface – and can be used to treat a wide range of concerns safely and simultaneously.
